Fourth Front Cover Draft

This is my fourth front cover draft. It involves major change in comparison
to my previous draft, such as a change in artist to create continuity in my product.
On my third draft it looked like the 50 Cent story was my feature story
therefore I had to switch things right so it was clear to the audience as to which
story was my feature story.

Third Front Cover Draft

This is my third front cover, I prefer this to my previous drafts as it fits the original colour scheme I came up with. It also follows the conventions of other hip hop magazines; I used XXL magazine as a reference for conventions.

Second Front Cover Draft

This is my second draft, at this point I had nearly finished however just had to add some final touches such as placement and colouring to make my magazine look more appetizing. As you can see from looking at my final piece this had been achieved.

First Front Cover Draft

This is my first draft, as you can see it needed vast improvement and that happened through the rest of the development stages. However I think this is a good piece of work for my first effort.

Evaluation #7

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

Since my preliminary task I have learnt many things, and my skills within media
have progressed significantly. When I started my preliminary task I had no
experience on technologies such as Photoshop. However, I knew basic conventions
of magazines due to my experience in GCSE media studies.

Throughout the time between the two pieces of work I feel I have learnt to use
Photoshop to high standard, I did this through practice and watching tutorial videos
on how to do certain things on YouTube. Furthermore, when doing my planning and
research I familiarized myself with the conventions of existing products, this allowed my to
use the conventions to my advantage when creating my product and allowed me to
make it conform to conventions of existing media products.

Additionally, when doing my planning and research I could look at existing hip hop
magazines to help me think of a layout and help me apply conventions of my genre correctly.
I used XXL as a template to my product as when I was researching it I found it was an
extremely popular hip hop magazine and has a large fan base. Due to the magazine's success
I thought that following it's conventions would help my product be a success.
On the other hand, when looking at existing college magazines it was hard to identify whether
or not the magazine is successful; this is because they only target a small audience and are not
nationally or globally known.

Evaluation #2

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

This is very similar to my question 5. My magazine is aimed at class D of the social class table, I have chosen this audience as they are stereotypically interested in gigs/tracks which I have included within my media product. I have also priced my magazine at £2.99 as I think people within my target audience age range will be able to afford this magazine as it is not too expensive and they may have part/full time jobs. £2.99 is a reasonable price for a music magazine and the audience will be getting great value for money based on the content featured within the magazine.
